Dark Souls III Part 23 - Shy Skeleton Hat Guy

Arin and Danny meet another awesome skeleton enemy that uses a wheel to roll at them! So funny! They come up with all these cheesy wheel puns as well!
I was thinking about that "cheeses get gouda" line a few days ago and was wondering if they ever said it before! I love cheesy pun jokes as well. They're brilliant. Must watch Commando sometime :)
They get murdered by a player who invaded their world! Oh my gosh :O they looked all scary and red...

Captain Motorcycle is the character Danny plays in this cartoon. He tries hitting on the girls and referring to himself in the third person but doesn't get on so well. The girls are played by Arin. I like the way the music from Link Between Worlds seems to suit the cartoon somewhat!

Dark Souls III Part 22 - Great Balls of Skeletons

Wow, that ball of skeletons rolling up and down the stairs is awesome! I love that skeleton in the hat that runs away too! This game is starting to seem really cool to me now!

Arin and Danny try to get a reaction out of Banooru with every song they can think of. Thankfully, they find the solution in a walkthrough. It's funny seeing Epona showing up and day turning into night and everything else except what Arin wants to happen!
They then have a discussion about Epona's carrots and the general subject of "cooldown". As for me, I never found an example of cooldown in a game that I like.
I love that Kool-Aid joke!

I don't play WoW and never have, but this is a great video and shows how a lot of players feel about that whole situation. Those in-game tributes and pilgrimmages are amazing!

Anyway there's one thing that cracks me up about this and that is the thought of say, multimedia students watching this, being all serious and academic and taking notes while Arin's being all crazy informative, emphasis on the crazy!

Haven't blogged about a GrumpOut video for a while!
This is an interesting one. Ross waits for people to show up to take the couch and among the lovelies he meets, one of them is a couple on their honeymoon! That's great :)
There's a clip of Danny and Arin talking about the couch and the uh.... white stain. The couch is being taken by an awesome lovelie (GageAgnew on Twitter) who plans to play Banjo-Kazooie on it. It's going to a good home :)
After the loading, a little montage plays of the live action moments with the couch with Arin singing a specialised version of time of your life. Then Ross tells the rest in the office all about how it went.
So yeah... my thoughts. That couch has been there since the very first trailers for Game Grumps on Jon and Arin's own YouTube channels. Steam Train too. It has some legacy! They always talked about how cramped it was and when they were getting a new one or whatever and yeah they've been through changes. The whole thing seems to have gone pretty well and that's cool.

They were never disgusted by this game! Suzy's obsessed! Arin just wants to play Dark Souls III! He's interested in this game too of course.
They start over from the beginning and Suzy's got the whole thing sussed! She offers lots of pro tips.

Dark Souls III Part 21 - Grinding and Arin

Arin and Danny discuss dodging and blocking. In games like Link's Awakening I used to block all the time but now I've played it so much that I almost never equip the shield unless it's for puzzles or something.
From the sound of things, Arin sounds prepared! He's after doing lots of grinding and stuff. He takes care of the boss and his preparations pay off! Yay :)

Barry and Brian ponder a ghost mitzvah and enlighten us about Jewish traditions. Also about their travels, which is interesting. Especially about the Dead Sea and balls tingling!
Brian gets very excited when Bosons are mentioned in the game and makes it Math Grumps again! he tells us what Bosons are.
Barry draws a nice little face at the end.
Barry and Brian ponder a ghost mitzvah and enlighten us about Jewish traditions. Also about their travels, which is interesting. Especially about the Dead Sea and balls tingling!

Wow! Nice heads up for the Hastily Made Cleveland Tourism Video Attempts! Those videos are pretty funny :) I've never seen them before! Of course, they're getting nice Grump bumps :) the other video about the cat on his channel is great too!

Dark Souls III Part 20 - Post Guest Grumps Session

Arin and Danny begin their 14th episode of the day after a long day of recording. Steve O was a great guest and Rob Schneider is gonna be on soon? Wow!
Yeah they normally do 14 episode sessions that go on into the night don't they? I find myself doing lots of blogs in a session sometimes!
That's an awesome thing Rob Schneider said to them... They talk a little bit about their experience with their guests and how much they loved having them!
They're up against some highly competent opponents in this episode... There's a lot of rolling around going on. Is this how Dark Souls is normally played? I suppose it's similar to how the dodge move is used in the IGAvania Castlevania games.

They have great fun on the "Live And Learn" puzzle! I was yelling "hanging on the edge of tomorrow" at them when they couldn't figure it out and then they sang it out loud when Jacob got it! Hahaha what fun :)

Dark Souls III Part 18 - Online Covenant Thingy

Arin and Danny experience the Wolf covenant thing, which involves playing online with other people's worlds. Kind of interesting and seems like a good way to disguise busywork.
Danny talks about sayings and bits added on to sayings and how annoying it can be. I think they're really funny actually! I have a few of them from other people. They get tiresome like any other joke I suppose!
Nice fun guy joke too :)

After all the victories, they die from poison. What a way to go... at least they can rendez vouz with the wolf again.

Arin says he has trouble remembering the bosses, even though he played this game through a few times. I'm not sure how many times I've played this game through completely, but it's almost certainly in the double digits. I remember them all. The newer Zeldas I sometimes forget the bosses alright.
I like those two New Jersey guys talking about Pokémon! They sound funny :)

Dark Souls III Part 17 - Cool Swamp Adventures and Amazing Views

Arin appears before the video in another of these mysterious skits! This time it's a lovely motivational thing where he says he'll beat our naysayers with that plastic bat he still has. Funny and lovely to hear the life affirming things too!
Arin and Danny freak out at this huge thing chasing them through the swamp and shooting flaming skulls at them. Areas like this make this game freaking cool! They easily dispatch of the lanky guy from the last episode by throwing flaming things at him. All those nasty little death enemies too.
They climb a ladder, join a wolf's covenant and check out some cool views. It's really gorgeous and more colourful than Bloodborne. Nice that there's these little guys to chase for extra bonus stuff. They're like Metal Slimes are they?

Arin and Danny have story time. "Mailbag Gaming"?! Wow! I'm glad we have the current name of the show! Also, Jon isn't the original Not So Grump? Mind is blowing all over the place here... but no, it was just a test thing.
Danny talks about his nervousness in starting and it's so sweet of him. I remember those first episodes well and I remember being really confused and surprised. Also very sad that Jon was gone, but I was always very open to Ross and Danny. Then in no time at all, those guys just made me fall in love with them and cemented my belief that Game Grumps is always full of amazing talent. They're still awesome to this day and I'm so glad to have them! Jon continues to be an amazing talent and I love writing about his stuff too. I never had hatred for Danny :) so sweet to hear that Jon texted him and told him he couldn't have had a better person to pass the torch to. Aww!
By the way, Arin's getting his butt handed to him by Volvagia.... that little impy boss from before takes so many hits too.

Dark Souls III Part 16 - Kingdom Hurrrrghs

Arin appears before the video to talk to us again in another of these curious little skits with ukelele-like music playing in the background. What are they all about, if anything?? Anyway, this one has a point to it, where he talks about an older Game Grumps Animated by Carl Doonan and has a little correction of a mistake he made with linking. He then stares at us for taking so long to click anything.
These skits continue to be very mysterious!
Arin and Danny recommend watching The Princess Bride. I do too! It's a great movie, even though I need to have the subtitles on when André the Giant is speaking.
Yeah I love the R and L swapping with Japanese accents too :)
Yikes... Kingdom Hearts. I haven't played it properly myself but that's because I really can't see the appeal. It makes me feel like I'm too old to play it :(

Wow! This FPS is a pretty cool concept! Enemies only move when you do, so you have to be all tactical.
I love the setup too, where you're hearing about it as a rumour from a guy in an ancient internet chatroom. I love that cosy touch about it :) makes me want to see if there's more of that kind of thing!

Before the video, Arin and Barry show the fly on the wall shaky camera the new Game Grumps shirt! It's the whole crew all bunched up in a car for an awesome road trip or something. Who's that at the start? Is it Vernon? I won't make any rash labelling since I don't know for sure... Anyway the shirt is cool and the Hanna-Barbera sound effect at the end is brilliant too :)
Arin and Danny beat down the pillars but get a bit muddled when looking for the Boss Key and trying to do something with the Song of Time. Danny makes a good reference to Wayne's World with the hazy outline that shows up when Link plays a song!
Danny gets a glimpse of what the 3D Like Likes are like and is horrified.
Poor Arin! When I was playing this game at first, I used a walkthrough from the British official Nintendo magazine for all the dungeons. Well, except the Spirit Temple, which became my favourite temple. I'm not sure why I didn't use one for that temple. Of course, that's if I remember right. I think it may have been between issues or something. I'm well able to cope with it now, but I do remember not being confident in the dungeons at all back then. I'm still not confident at all in the Master Quest dungeons!
So, that Hebrew song Danny talked about was kind of sweet :) also funny to imagine it being Numa Numa!
Arin then ends the episode on a cliffhanger! He's got a story to tell next time! Dang it! I love the stories!

When it comes to insects, I like throwing them out the window. If they can't be released easily, I have to swat them. Similar reason as Arin's.

They talk a bit about cheating too. I've never done it and it's interesting to hear Danny talk about it and his life experience.
They get a bit deep and talk about evil. Zelda playthroughs do seem to be ones where they get deep! Something about Zelda games alright make you think in depth about things while you play.
When something bad is happening to you, it's very difficult to perceive it as anything but evil. What's going on behind this bad thing happening may not be evil, but you still have to deal with this bad thing happening to you.
They face the dancing puppet fire bomb mini-boss thing. I never use the hookshot on it! I always threw bombs at it! Now that I know that I can, I think I'll prefer to use the hookshot like they just did!

Steve-O is here this time. It's been so long since I watched Jackass... I used to love it actually and the first movie was one of the times I laughed the most at the cinema.
So, Arin and Danny play MadWorld with him! He wanted the most violent and the worst of the worst! I like the way he talks favourably about video games. :)
Holy cow his laugh too! What's with his voice? It's otherworldly!
I have to answer Steve-O's question about video games and getting laid... yes it has happened.
He talks a bit about video game violence and news media irresponsibility and also a bit about Tetris, all while MadWorld gore is happening right there. I haven't played MadWorld yet and it seems a bit repetitive but I can't imagine it being as good when Steve-O isn't around! He definitely adds something to the game!
Also, omg when he plays and gets a thrill of using the Wii Remote... it's the thrill we all felt when we first used the Wii with games like this! In my case, it was No More Heroes :) But of course we had that thrill with playing regular Wii games first too.
They talk about Steve-O's stunts and the battering his body has taken and a bit about his drug use too. They talk about that recent Concussion movie. I wonder if he's ever seen that Burt Reynolds movie about an aging stuntman? Hooper is what it's called. That's what I'm thinking about when I hear him talking about the crazy stuff he did and how he feels about stuff now.
Well, now I know what "crushing" means! It's kind of sweet to hear that Steve-O worries about having a healthy relationship. Interesting to hear him and Danny have this discussion too. Also very sweet to see Danny get flustered and teased about a girl! It's a boys slumber party over here!

Dark Souls III Part 12 - Dog Boned

Arin and Danny have another funny sequence running from a dog, only to get killed. They have a very close call to retrieve their souls before getting killed again!
I like the Grindr talk they have :) It's cute.
Love the cliffhanger at the end too because Danny can really feel it! He's fascinated by this new area they just entered. Maybe it's the last episode they're recording for this session?

Barry and Brian bravely go into this game! No guys, it's not the crab walk that's in the Exorcist, it's the spider walk. Mark Kermode would have a fit.
"Even the text doesn't wanna be here!" Barry cringes, which is pretty funny! Brian said this is the first game he found that worked. Barry begins playing and his expectations are actually exceeded. It seems to be like a 2.5D platformer like Klonoa or Pandemondium.
So I Married An Axe Murderer is a great Mike Myers movie, but I think my favourite is The Spy Who Shagged Me. That is such a fun movie to watch.
I kind of like seeing them play these "licensed schlock" games. It would be interesting to see how many of them were worth playing. We actually don't see too many of them on consoles these days. Comparatively speaking, of course.

The funny dialogue with the Gorons is pretty cool. That high pitched "Liiiiink" they say sounds like Ling from Kung Pow!

Barry does his now famous Kermit the Frog impression here too! They talk about Muppets and it's cute how Audrey thinks her dad works on that show! Danny would make a good Animal! I can totally picture the Animal saying "NOT SO GRUMP!" in the intro! I didn't think about the low number of female Muppets... Huh...

I have an example of this actually: The hero from Dragon Quest V. You start as a little boy and you then play at a later stage where you're a man. There are a few other examples I can think of, but this may be the most relevant.
Then they have to bomb that Goron who rolls around the Goron City. I was cringing at this because I remember how it takes forever for me to get him every time I do a playthrough. Arin though, once he finds him, manages it almost straight away! On his very last bomb too! WOW!

Maria seems dangerous and hot and Arin's this gallant hero that goes through all kinds of emotions and actions during his fight. Danny's this weird ghost thing and it's pretty cool too! There's something very Roger Ramjet about these designs. Even the thumbnail looks really fun and expressive.

Dark Souls III Part 8 - Sympathy Versus Empathy

Arin and Danny are thrilled that someone on Game of Thrones said he'd love to do something with Starbomb. Nice edit too with the "House Avidan" thing.
I like the voice Arin gives the weird gargoyle thingies that give them a lift and the rhyming mishearing of insults :) I also like their discussion of the difference between sympathy and empathy.
Then, while reciting the theme song for "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air", they discuss the difference between prince and fresh prince. Fun stuff :)

I like that there's fast travel in this game. The world is quite big. I quite like the look of the combat in this game too; part projectile, part melée and lots of dodge swishing like you'd find in the Metroidvania Castlevanias.

While speaking of movies they talk about Schindler's List and Tiny Toon Adventures and Animaniacs. Danny talks about Schindler's List and it's really sweet to hear him talk about it. I've never actually seen it myself. I ought to someday.

Super Mario Maker Part 102 - Patience Break

Arin and Danny move on to "Pit of Panga: P-Break" by Panga. Is this the hardest level in all of Mario Maker? They're looking up a video of how to do it and they can't believe how hard it is. Arin makes a tiny bit of progress as he goes along though so it's hopeful!

Super Mario Maker Part 101 - Game Grumps CX

Arin and Danny move on to a level about a Japanese convenience store called Lawson, by a Japanese player with Japanese writing in their name. It seems to be just an interactive advert or logo tribute or something!
Anyway, they move on to "Bowser's Closet" by phil. Kind of a fun stage and they enjoy Mario hiding behind the block. Arin talks about Game Center CX for a bit and yeah I love that show! Love Arino as well.
They finish and move on to "Well that was easy" by Bodean. To see if it was as advertised I suppose!

Arin and Danny are a little out of sorts, as Arin was stressing over the time start and Danny had eaten a bunch of stuff since the last episode. All that talk about grilled cheese sandwiches must've pushed them!
They figure stuff out in this dungeon, which I know so well how bewildering it can be! What's with the shortage of keys... They also discuss chasing your dreams, the aspect of it that sucks and about success and happiness. Interesting discussion to have now and again to figure out things that are important to you.

Very interesting use of the skull platform things for waves! Very cool experience seeing them intertwine and everything. Clever level Phill :)
They go on to "Bob-omb's Blast Barrage v2" by Phil. He's an animator that Arin's buddies with and he's made a nice simple block stage that has more than one way to solve it. It's pretty nice, challenge wise!

If that wasn't bad enough, Arin lays out just how to make a perfect one and goes on to describe other recipes. Be careful of drooling when watching this episode folks!
I can't really think of anything else! They get the bow and arrow and try to find some keys and talk a bit about Family Guy too and Marvin the Martian. Still can't stop thinking about Dan's grilled cheese sandwich!

Super Mario Maker Part 99 - Raiding the Lost Flower

Arin and Danny return to the torture! It's on to "The Curse of the Golden Flower" by Snugboat.
It's cool the way it does a 180 and makes you run back! Great execution and it makes Arin genuinely panic! Really great level made to look like an ancient temple full of traps!
Nice zoom on the tiny "good" that Arin wrote by Kevin there too!
Arin's obsessed with how the stage could be done in 11 seconds. Danny gives a little tribute to Phife Dog at the end slate and his untimely death. I have no idea about him myself but it's nice of Danny to say a few words.

Arin and Danny begin the Forest Temple with a fun jam with Link's shield. Nice to start this place so lightly! It's a pretty unsettling place to me! Especially with the music!
The cunning lingual jokes put themselves in hysterics! It is quite funny alright! The alphabet huh? Hm...
Danny talks about the importance of washing hands. Very important and he's saving lives :)
It's great that they can do the block puzzle with the floor arrows without any trouble. I remember taking ages on it before! They talk about smokers having all the stories. Still not any reason to become one mind you! You can get just as many stories queueing for something.
Having company while this level is on is nice but the atmosphere is completely different when playing alone. Same with the other dungeons until now too.

Arin and Danny start a new session. They meet Mido in the Lost Woods and play the song to get past him.
The meeting with the Moblins (I think they're moblins) is as eventful as you could expect! They take care of them with some bombs though! Didn't know bombs could be used! I usually use the hookshot! Pierre the scarecrow can be summoned at the start too so you can skip this part. Very handy. Not as fun as using bombs though!
They meet Sheik again and go into the Forest Temple. Dan tells this funny thing about ATMs that charge for usage and then play a casino slot machine chime. It's pretty funny :)

Arin and Brian do the reverse gravity planet for a while and then go to a different one on dying. One with farm animals and a jet ski. Some bit of figuring out to do here. Both places are confusing with the slime too.

Arin and Danny start the race with the ghostly Dampé. I love the Reese's Pieces joke :)
Then they meet the windmill guy who talks about the song that hasn't been played yet that ruined the windmill. They talk about a time loop and Danny makes a reference to Bruce Willis in Looper not wanting to explain the time travel thing. I freaking LOVE that moment! I love that movie too! SO much!
By the way, they forgot to learn the song! Gah! They also forgot to cheer up the pocket cucco. Danny was saying he laughed to himself at 3am in the morning because he remembered a funny line they had in another playthrough. I love remembering jokes in the middle of the night! Laughing myself awake. It's great :D

Dark Souls III Part 4 - Realistic Cannibox

Arin and Danny go into an area with a big devastating dragon that sets fire to everything. They take cover in a place with a treasure chest.
But this treasure chest is like a Mimic! Or a Cannibox from Dragon Quest with its teeth and tongue. This one though has gangly limbs so it's pretty freaky looking in itself. It starts following them out to the dragon and Arin's freaking out but they make it through safe!
Later on they make fun of the dead petrified dragon's head.

Arin and Brian warp to another planet, Volcania. There's a block with a space too small to fit through, so it's on to Sauria. It's got dinosaurs but it's too tough so they go to Turvia. Turvia's pretty unsettling with the huge sky at the bottom!
They spend a good bit of time trying to suss the pattern of the flying fish. It's pretty tough looking. They manage to suss a bit more by jumping through trees. Things are getting interesting! Slow but steady!

Arin and Danny go to Lon Lon Ranch on a lovely sunset evening. When they meet Ingo they talk about dastardly characters with curly mustaches tying women to train tracks. Lovely evening for such a hangouty conversation!
I don't blame Arin for trying to get Epona. For some reason you have to go into the corral twice to get the race. It's always that way for me anyway.
They don't get Epona but reunite with Malon and also the house to see the three magical chickens, reminiscing on their childhood Link memories. Ahhh! :)

The game gets pretty interesting when the computer gets taken away! Then they see all this stuff happen and these ghost flap things that are like Metroids.

What the heck is that weird text box glitch?! I've never seen that in the game before. Is this just in the American version?
They do the archery game, but since they don't have the bow and arrows yet, they get a purple rupee as a prize.
They meet the cucco lady and are both charmed and weirded out by her at the same time. Fun stuff :)
Danny talks about a game he made up with his friend when they were kids, which was just about throwing stuff at each other and involving dinosaurs. Sounds great :)

Arin and Danny meet Sheik! Arin calls him a "he" as well! Woo! The dialogue is funny as you can expect.
I love Danny's reaction to the future of Hyrule when they step out of the Temple of Time. They explore the devastation and meet the ghost shop guy. That break out into the YMCA song and it's really well matched with the dialogue! Very nice improv there :)
Arin heads to Kokiri Forest before Kakariko. Whoops...
Anyway, the Harry Caray Will Ferrell spoof is brilliant! I love those routines!

Omg, when they said Ocarina was the fourth Zelda I screamed internally! They weren't that sure though. Link's Awakening is my first and favourite! Also, because I read a lot of game magazines in the 90s, I usually call this game Zelda 5.
I like the idea of Rauru being an older guy trying to get back into the dating scene and being a single dad to Link!

Zelda Skyward Sword Part 2 - Grump Gauge, NO Cooldown!

Arin and Danny continue and the topic of the stamina bar comes up. I'm 100% with Arin on this one and that's NO JOKE! I don't like "cooldown periods" in games. Zelda's supposed to be fast and arcadey but this aspect isn't. It links stamina fruit along a path so you can get some kind of "combo" but that's just busywork really.
Arin is very Grump towards this game in this episode! Hoo! Nice to hear that they're gonna be playing it for reals too someday! Yay! :)
But oh, is it worth watching! Wow! At the end when Danny rests his head, Arin rests his as well and Zelda starts singing a lulling melody just as they do. That was perfect timing!

Sonic The Hedgehog 2 - Jirard the Megadriver

We join Jirard and Ross for the April 1st episode of Grumpcade! The first to have face cam too!
I love the fact that Jirard is using a SNES controller! Technically and officially, this is possible because they could be playing the Wii Virtual Console version of Sonic 2 and using the special SNES Classic Controller that was available in the Club Nintendo Stars Catalogue for a short time. Sadly it's gone along with Club Nintendo itself. Actually I'm not sure if this was done in the American Club Nintendo, but then again, Ross is Australian, so he could've gotten it from his Club Nintendo since it was available there too.
Check out the amazing one handed playing skill on Jirard! That is a highly rare and valuable skill to have. Think of the possibilities!

Super Mario Maker Part 98 - Difficile!

Arin and Danny continue "Goal Keeper (stop everything)" by Nevakee. They discover they can deflect a shell with a helmet! I didn't know that either! It's pretty cool :)
I love the "difficile!" exclamations during the insane shell part. It was satisfying to see them finish it.
